JO PARIS 2024
Paris-2024 has chosen the Teahupoo site in Tahiti, whose waves are among the most powerful and perilous in the world. “Among surfers there is great excitement around Paris-2024, especially in Tahiti,” said the French Justine Dupont, specialist in giant waves and president of the athletes’ commission of the International Surfing Federation (ISA), welcoming in Teahupoo “a sacred place”.
In a statement released on Monday by the Country, the President of French Polynesia, Edouard Fritch, the Minister in charge of Sports, Heremoana Maamaatuaiahutapu, and members of the government joined the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJOP) of Paris 2024 to “welcome this long-awaited decision”. This final validation confirms the choice of holding the Olympic surfing events in French Polynesia, which officially becomes a host community for the Paris 2024 Games. The Teahupo’o site thus becomes the official host site for the 2024 Paris JO, the press release concludes.
